Rev. Dale Lee Kirkhuff age 81, of Norman, OK, entered into the land of the living on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 after a brief illness. He entered into the land of the dying on January 6, 1938. He was the oldest of three sons born to Dorman Lee Kirkhuff and Virginia Sue (Lyon) Kirkhuff. Dale grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Will Rogers High School with the class of 1956. Four months later he married the love of his life Marlene Davis. They were married on Sept. 4, 1956, at Sheridan Rd. Baptist Church in Tulsa and later raised two children, Randy and Cyndi.
When Dale was a young man he knew that God had called him into full time ministry and to be a pastor. He continued his education by attending Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, OK, graduating with a bachelor’s of arts degree in 1962. During this time he began pastoring. His first church was Bidding Creek Baptist Church in Stillwell, OK where he stayed for three years. He then pastored two years at Tushka First Baptist Church in Tushka, OK.
From 1966 to 1968 Dale attended Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth and received his Master’s in Religious Education. During his two years at seminary, Dale was a youth minister at the Haltom Rd Baptist Church in Haltom City, Texas.
Over the next 50 years, Dale pastored 10 more churches throughout California, Texas and Oklahoma. His last two he pastored were 12 years at Lexington First Baptist Church from 1995-2007, and 8 years at Twelve Corners Baptist Church from 2010 to November 2018.
Throughout his life, Dale served on various Committees and Boards within the Southern Baptist Denomination and traveled to India on mission trips. Without question, Dale had a heart to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of the World. He dedicated his life to preaching, teaching and touching souls for the Kingdom of God.
It was hard to say Dale without saying Marlene. Dale and Marlene worked side by side in every church Dale pastored. Dale preached and Marlene played the Piano. They even enjoyed spending time together in their hobbies and vacations. They were avid O. U. sports fans and football season ticket holders for many years. And their favorite place to vacation was anywhere there was water and sand. Dale loved to walk on the sandy beaches, watch the ocean waves come in and read a book. Heaven’s gain is our earthly loss, Thy good and faithful servant, welcome home.
