R. Jean (Hummel) King

 R. Jean King, age 96 and former resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on April 2, 2018 at St. Simeon's Episcopal Home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jean was born on November 9, 1921 in Ellsworth, Kansas. She was the daughter of George Frederick Hummel and Emily Alice Hummel. She was raised in Kansas where she received her formal education, graduating from Manhattan High School. She completed both a Bachelor's of Science (1946) and a Master's of Science (1948) at Kansas State University, where she was a faculty member and played the trombone in the K-State Marching Band.

Mrs. King moved to Bartlesville three times during her lifetime with husband, William Robert "Bob" King, a long-time Phillips Petroleum Company employee. When in residence, she always was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and a member and past president of the Episcopal Church Women at St. Luke's.

Jean served on the Board of Directors of the Bartlesville Symphony Society and received the Above and Beyond Award for her services. She also received the American Red Cross Clara Barton Award, served on the Board of Directors of the American School in Madrid, Spain, and was a member of the faculty at Kansas State University, and Frank Philips College in Borger, Texas. She served on the board of the Hillcrest Heights Homeowners Association and as a board member of the Frank Phillips Medical Center Auxiliary. She also is a member of Chapter AW of PEO, an educational philanthropic organization.

She is survived by her three children, Joan Alice King of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ann King Dorsey and her husband, Timothy, of Kingwood, Texas, and William Robert "Bill" King, Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Woodbury, Minnesota; and by her five grandchildren, Rebecca Dorsey Wintering, Patrick Dorsey, John King, Molly King and Sarah King.

Memorial services will be Friday, April 6, at 11:00 AM in St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the The Rev. Stephen Hood officiating.

Memorial gifts may be made in Mrs. King's name to St. Luke's Episcopal Church Women, 210 E. 9th St., Bartlesville, OK 74003.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
