Dr. George Harris Kimball
August 20, 1947 ~ March 8, 2020 (age 72)

Dr. George Harris Kimball passed away with family by his side on Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 72.

Dr. Kimball was born in Tulsa, OK, on August 20, 1947. He was an honors student and an outstanding athlete with basketball as his first love. He led his team, Will Rogers High, in scoring and was a first-team all-conference player. He attended Kansas State College on a basketball scholarship before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Returning from his service, Dr. Kimball completed his undergraduate studies at Northeastern State University. He then earned both a Masters and Ph.D. In Psychology at the University of Oklahoma where he worked on world-renowned, groundbreaking studies with chimpanzees and their communication and comprehension with human sign language in the 1970s. After teaching at OU, he began work as the Director of Planning, Research and Evaluation and Director of Information Technology with the Oklahoma City Public School system for over 30 years before retiring in 2015.

He is preceded in death by his father, Julius George Kimball, and mother, Virginia Kimball. George is survived by his wife, Teri; his son, Jason, and spouse Christine; his son, Anthony, and spouse Celia; his brother, Charles, and spouse Nancy; his sister, Carol, and spouse Jerry Fincher; and his sister, Susan. He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.

George was a lifelong golfer, fisherman, diehard Oklahoma Sooners and New England Patriots football fan, and 36-year fantasy football pioneer. He influenced all of those around him, both personally and professionally, and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.

Memorial services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St, Norman, OK 73072.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be sent to the OKC Zoo at
