Alieda May Key, age 67, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away suddenly on October 9, 2019
A memorial ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 21, 2019 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church in Ponca City with Pastor Michael Taylor officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Alieda was born on July 28, 1952 to Linwood Earl Franklin, Jr.,and Ruth Alieda (Potter) Franklin in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Alieda lived in North Kingstown until she was about 5 years old, at which time her family moved to Tucson, Arizona. Alieda attended Sunnyside high school in Tucson, and graduated in 1970. One fateful evening, while she and some friends were out on the town, she caught the eye of a young airman who was stationed at the local Air Force Base. After dating for sometime, Lannie Ron Key asked Alieda to marry him and they were married on February 14, 1975. After they were married, Alieda began a career as a beautician and later took college classes earning her an Associate's degree in Fashion Merchandising Management. Alieda put that degree to good use in her life as a fashion retail manager, with her last job being an assistant store manager for Catherine's Plus Sizes. Her keen eye for fashion was a blessing to whomever came into the stores where she worked. In 2013, Alieda and Lannie purchased a home in Ponca City before moving here to retire in 2014. People gave Alieda much joy in life. She loved working with others and saw the good in them.
Wherever she was, if there was a way to help, Alieda wanted to get involved. Her desire to be involved was most evident at church. As a faithful member of First Baptist Church, she assisted in Kids Club and assisted in teaching the 4th grade children in Sunday school, as well as planning social events for her Adult 6 Sunday School Class. The community bible study was another place Alieda shared her faith. Also, she was a board member of the Ponca City Newcomers Association and a member of Happy Hearts, a part of the Oklahoma State Agricultural Extension. In her personal time, Alieda enjoyed traveling to the beaches of her birthplace in Rhode Island, reading classic mystery and Christian novels as well as collecting Teddy Bears and lighthouses. But above all, Alieda's Christian faith was her strength in life. The thoughts and meditations Alieda shared revolved around her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Alieda touched a lot of lives and will be dearly missed by those for whom she so deeply loved.
Survivors include her beloved husband Lannie of the home, sons: Jeffrey Key of Ponca City, Lannie Key, Jr. of Antelope, CA; brother: David Franklin and wife April of Independence, KS, brother and sister in law: Christopher & Gaye Young of Ponca City, nephews: George Cook, Brian Young, Kevin Young; nieces Terry (Cook) Burklow, Sarah Savannah Franklin, and Susan (Franklin) Koerperich.
