Linda Lou Kerr, 74, of Marietta, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Mercy Hospital Ardmore. Services will be scheduled at a later date.
Linda was born October 26, 1946 in Marietta to James Dewitt and Sythia May Blackmon Mayes. She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Greenville High School. Linda worked as a dispatcher for the Love County Sheriff’s Office and Madill Police Department. She retired from the Gainesville Police Department after more than 20 years as the records clerk. Most recently, she worked as a childcare provider in Marietta. Linda was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church, Marietta. She enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, crafting, and genealogy. Although Linda had many interests, her favorite thing to do was spend time with the two great-grandsons she raised for the past six years, Rylan and Brandon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sythia Mayes; sisters, Margaret Hammer, Alyne Kirk, and Marie Curry; and brothers, John Mayes and Billy Jack Mayes.
Survivors include her sister, Joyce Allgood of Ardmore; daughters, Dr. Sherry Mathews and husband Brent of Riverview, Florida, and Terri Smithwick and husband Joe Adams of Marietta; grandchildren, Makenzie King and wife Maegan, Jessica McComber and husband Trevor, and Zachary Smithwick; three great-grandsons, Hunter Duncan, Rylan Duncan and Brandon Duncan; numerous nieces and nephews; and previous spouse Jerry Kerr of Marietta.
