Davis Warren Kemp was called home on December 12, 2021.
Better known as “Sonny" to most, Davis was born November 24, 1952 to Davis Kemp and Florene Carney in Talahina, Oklahoma.
Sonny attended high school in Quinton, OK where he excelled in Football. In 1971, Sonny enlisted in the United States Army. Following his time in the Army (being deployed to Germany), Sonny enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard. He continued to serve his country until he was honorably discharged in March, 1992.
In 1977, Sonny met and married Sue Zimmerman. The relationship produced his older children, Brian, Chris, and Patricia Kemp. In 1984, Sonny met Hope Whitestar. From this relationship, his youngest children, Sarah Burris and Star Whitestar joined the family. In 2006, Sonny met Cindy Jefferson. Sonny and Cindy enjoyed their life together. He always kept her on her toes by pretending someone stole her dog (amongst many of his elaborate jokes on the people he loved). From this relationship, his family expanded to include: Karen West, Brian Jefferson, Kyla Jefferson, Joel Jefferson, and more grandchildren he loved.
Sonny had many jobs as he loved to work with his hands; either working in oil fields or as a cross-country trucker. In 2013, Sonny was involved in a truck accident that forced him to retire. In retirement, Sonny enjoyed fishing, playing jokes on friends, and enjoyed hearing about his Grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sonny is survived by his longtime companion, Cindy Jefferson; Sisters, Johnny Sue Kemp, Mary Moses, and Maude-Ann; Children, Brian (Mindy) Kemp, Christopher Kemp, Patricia Kemp, Sarah Burris, and Starling Whitestar, Karen West, Brian Jefferson, Kyla Jefferson, Joel Jefferson. Grandchildren, Emily Kemp, Haley Kemp, Alexia Schaible, Joselyn Schaible, Sommer Schaible, Giovanni Alvarado, Karen West, Brian Jefferson, Kyla Jefferson, Joel Jefferson and many more including those who called him Grandpa, Cousin, and Friend.
Sonny is proceeded in death by his Father, Davis Kemp; Mother, Florene Parker; Brothers, Hubert Kemp, and Matthew “Hunky” Kemp.
Due to Sonny’s giving nature, his family allowed for his tissue and organs to be donated to help someone in need.
Honorary pallbearers will be Riccy Jones, Ian West, Herman Doctor, Mike Day, Daa’Honga Littlewalker, and Devin West.
A celebration of his life will be held at noon on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Vassar Church.
