Virgie was born September 29, 1923 in Wellston, Oklahoma and she went Home to be with the Lord on February 24, 2005 in Bakersfield, California with her family by her side. She joins her seven sons, nine siblings, special sister-in-law, Elsie Grider, and special daughter, Mary Camp in Heaven.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 64 years, Barney Madison Kastner; three sons, Roger, Steve and Ernie Kastner; four daughters, Joyce and her husband, Dennis Fox, Janie St. Onge, Linda and her husband Kenny Hodges, and Kathie Maddox; twelve grandchildren and twenty six great-grandchildren; sister, Jan Copher; and many others whom she was mom and grandma to.
Virgie married the love of her life, Barney Madison Kastner on January 19, 1941 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
They moved to Bakersfield in 1940 where Virgie devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, even to those she considered family {which is almost everyone}.
She never met a stranger and you never left her house hungry. She loved to cook and feed others. Her turkey and cornbread dressing was the best. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her stew and chili beans.
Virgie loved going to yard sales with her girls. She loved watching old western movies, Little House on the Prairie and soap operas, Days of Our Lives and Another World.
She loved red roses, going to Chinese restaurants and McDonalds.
All that knew her, loved her! And she will be deeply missed.
A special thanks to her niece, Teena Lange, who was like a daughter to mom, for all her loving care given to mom during her illness.
