Arnold Marion Karas, 88, loving father of four and faithful husband to wife Artha Rae Riggle Karas, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Denton, Texas.

Arnold was born January 29, 1934 to Gilbert Marion Karas and Rosa Alvida Christensen Karas. He was raised on the family farm in southwestern Iowa until he enlisted in the Army. While stationed in New York, he married his wife Artha whom he had met while on leave back in Iowa.

After retiring from the Army in early 1957, he returned to the farm near Sharpsburg, Iowa to raise his family. In addition to farming, Arnold had several other occupations over the years. He was a plant manager/supervisor for Totes Systems in Lenox, Iowa, owned his own tractor repair shop on his farm, owned a small engine repair shop near Lenox, owned and operated greenhouses around Sharpsburg and Lenox, owned a craft shop in Lenox, manufactured toys for a toy company, repaired small engines at Barker Equipment in Lenox, built homes in and around Lenox, and was a tool and die maker/supervisor at Red Oak, Iowa, where he retired in 2000. After retiring Arnold and Artha moved to Marietta where they enjoyed making wood crafts as well as other craft items that they sold at flea markets. Arnold is remembered as a tough, hardworking man willing and ready to help anyone, along with his sense of humor and his passion for life and family. His grandchildren have pleasant memories of him taking them on tractor rides, playing cards, and receiving his wood creations as gifts, as well as his loving hugs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald Karas.

Survivors include his wife Artha Karas; two sisters, Rosella Howes and Dianna Marshall; children, Richard Karas, Debbie Karas Wiechman McLean, Darwin Karas, and Linda Karas Dieleman; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
