Anton "Tony" Kammerlocher, age 84, of Newcastle passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018, in his home of 50 years.
He was born May 29, 1933, in Mooreland, Oklahoma to George and Emerentia (Siglmuller) Kammerlocher and had five siblings: George, Paul, Emillie, Josephine and Mary.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ilene. He and Ilene were high school sweethearts and married in Stillwater, Oklahoma on October 16, 1954 on Homecoming Weekend.
He is survived by five children: Toni Kammerlocher, Paul (Debbie) Kammerlocher, Thad Kammerlocher, Eric Kammerlocher and Ruth Kammerlocher; 11 grandchildren: Tatum (Brandon) Sallee, Taylor Burris, Tessa Burris, Andrew, Nicole, Amber, Connor, Ashlyn, Lance, Addie, Vallie Kammerlocher; one great grandson Hayes Kamm Sallee; his sister Mary, many nieces and nephews. He opened his home and heart to many who he thought of as family, though not by birth or marriage.
Anton was born in Mooreland, Oklahoma where he graduated from High School in 1951. He attended Oklahoma State Agriculture and Mechanical College (Oklahoma A & M), now Oklahoma State University, (OSU) where he served as Student Body President and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 1957. He was a Captain in the United States Airforce Service as a Public Health Officer within the Veterinary Corps from 1957 to 1961. While he served in the military, he and Ilene were stationed in Montgomery Alabama, Moses Lake Washington, and the Azore Islands. He was a faculty member and researcher partnered with OSU at Jimma Agricultural Technical School, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Africa from 1961 to 1964. Returning to the Untied Stated to a Mixed Animal Veterinary practice in Amarillo, Texas from 1964 to 1965. Finally, settling in the Norman/ Newcastle on what has now become the family farm. He established Anton's Animal Hospital, a Companion Animal Practice, in Norman, Oklahoma in 1965; and continued to practice until his retirement in 2001. He served his community on the Newcastle School Board of Education for two terms, Rotary Club, volunteering veterinary services for local and state agencies, and remained active with Alumni of OSU College of Veterinary Medicine. He was honored by his peers with the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award, on the fiftieth anniversary of his graduation.
Anton is remembered for sharing his unique life stories and adventures with all. He was a renaissance man with talents in photography, poetry, and sculpting. His eclectic knowledge was well-balanced with humor which created many memories for those who shared his company.
Anton is being honored with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at 2:00 pm in the Newcastle Schools Auditorium, 101 North Main Street, Newcastle, Oklahoma.
