January 26, 1936 ~ November 11, 2017

Funeral Services for J Edward Jordan, age 81, will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday , November 16, 2017 at the Fairview First United Methodist Church. Reverend Andrew Haire will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

I was born January 26, 1936. Jay and Ethel Sutter Jordan brought me home to the red hills of Cheyenne Valley, where we raised wheat and cattle. I was a typical farm kid playing with animals of all sorts, from wild baby jack rabbits to kittens and puppies and my pony "Prince". When I was 3 they gave me a baby sister Mary Ann to torment. I had a cousin, Max who only lived a mile away and once we found out the directions to each other's homes, we were never far apart. I attended school at Cheyenne Valley until I was 10 years old, then we moved to Fairview. I graduated from Fairview High school in 1954. I went to OU for a year, doing all of the college things. I sang in the OU Men's Glee Club and was a Phi Delta Theta, but, my heart was still in Cheyenne Valley with the Hereford cattle and wheat fields. So, in the fall of 1955 I transferred to A&M (OSU) which was closer to my cows. In the fall of '56 I stayed at home and did not go back to school until enrolled at Alva where I graduated.

After graduation, I taught school in Kiowa, Kansas for a year and then I had a chance to teach in Fairview. I taught 5th and 6th grade for 5 years. I enjoyed teaching and having fun with my kids. We had skating parties, ice cream parties, and especially did things if you had made a 100 on your spelling test. I had a great time with my kids. I tried to make school fun and hopefully taught them some also. I tried to teach them things not in the books. Things they could take with them throughout life. I really enjoyed the little rascals and enjoyed seeing them as adults. I remember the times, after school, they would often fill the back of my pickup and we would go to the farm. Oh, how times have changed. After teaching at Fairview for 5 years, I taught 5th through 8th grade at Longdale, OK for 3 years. This was the end of my teaching career. I then gave my time to my cattle and wheat.

I can't remember when I was not a Methodist. Mother played the piano for the church in the Valley and we kids went with her to Wednesday night services and of course she played for revivals with Rev. Earl Slater. I was baptized as an adult with Rev. Rich Redinger. It meant a lot more to me than the traditional sprinkling as a baby. I started singing in the Methodist Church Choir when I was 16 and sung in the choir for 59 years. I taught senior high Sunday School for several years and was active in the church and community.

I am a lifetime member of the American Hereford Association, was a past president of the NW Oklahoma Hereford Association and a member of the Oklahoma Hereford Association. I have had great pleasure in striving to raise good Hereford cattle. They have been my pride and great joy. I was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. I have raised and registered 59 Quarter Horses. I often would ride the hill and pastures and often went on trail rides. There is no greater pleasure than riding the hills of Gods Earth. He has given me a wonderful life and I thank him for it.

Well, I have rambled on and it's time for me to meet my maker, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I leave behind my wonderful friend Bob Maynard, Chris Adams, Andrea Adams and my brother-in-law Dick Adams and a whole bunch of cousins and friends. I hope to see you all again one of these days. Good Bye, Bob
