Services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Faith Journey Church in Lawton at 1pm for Walter Samuel Jones who passed away April 2, 2016 in Lawton at the age of 60. He was a resident of Lawton.
Mr. Jones was born August 13, 1955 in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Classen High School in 1973 and shortly afterwards he enlisted in the US Army where he met the love of his life, Shirley Darden and later received an honorable discharge. After returning home from Germany, he was employed by Riverside Community Center. He later moved to Lawton, Ok to be with the love of his life, where they married on November 18, 1989.
Walter was employed by Wilbert Vault Company, Orkin Pest Control and Terminix before his health failed and he was no longer able to work. Walter loved his family and his mother was his heart. As a child he attended Sykes C.M.E. Church. Later in life he attended LBT Tabernacle where he was baptized and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. At Classen High School he played the trumpet in band. As an amateur boxer he won several fights. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his wife and family and had a big heart and gave to so many people in need. Walter enjoyed helping whomever he saw in need and would give the shirt off his back if needed.
He leaves behind to mourn, his faithful and loving wife Shirley Jones; his daughter Tracy Reed (Kelcey) of San Diego, Ca.; two grandsons, Victor Crawford of Oklahoma City and Kelcey Reed Jr. of San Diego, California; two great-grandsons J�len and D�Kavion; his mother Rosa L. Gordon of Oklahoma City; his father-in-law William Lee of Lawton, Oklahoma; his brother Michael Jones of Seattle, Washington; his sisters Janice Thompson of Oklahoma City, Vickie Nubine (Johnny) of Oklahoma City, Carolyn Newton (Dennis) of Lawton, Oklahoma, Cheri Elaine Johnson (James) of Oklahoma City and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Sarah Jones and by his mother-in-law Norma Jean Lee.
Arrangements are under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service where friends may call Friday, April 8, 2016 from 4pm to 8pm.
Private inurnment will be at a later date.
