Leilani Ann Jones

Leilani Ann Jones
June 3, 1949 ~ January 5, 2020

Leilani Ann Jones, age 70, Ft. Smith, Arkansas resident, formerly of Ponca City, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

A memorial ceremony to celebrate Leilani’s life will be held at 2pm on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in the Chapel at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory with Tom Howard officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Leilani was born on June 3, 1949 in Ponca City Oklahoma. She was the youngest child of Jewel Edgar (J.E.) Jones and Elizabeth Louise Jones.

She spent most of her life in Ponca City. She attended First Lutheran School and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1967. Leilani attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa in the 1980s and acquired her associate’s degree.

After high school, she and some friends moved to California at the height of hippie cultural revolution. She was on the scene at many famous events during that time of her life and often spoke of those years fondly. She was a hippie at heart until the day she passed away. She absolutely loved music and exposed her sons to all types while they were growing up. That passion for music lives in both of her sons to this day. She loved her family and her friends dearly. She was a master at conversation and never met a stranger. Leilani also loved animals, especially cats. She always had a cat as part of her family.

She was very proud of her Native American heritage (Cherokee) which came from her mother Louise. Leilani was a member of the Cherokee Nation.

In her later years, she resided in Fort Smith at the Waters of Fort Smith nursing home after suffering a stroke in 2008. Despite her physical limitations after the stroke, she kept her fun-loving attitude and rolled with whatever came her way. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her sons, Chad Jones and Conner Jones, daughter-in-law Kristi Jones and granddaughter Laney Elizabeth Jones all of Fort Smith, AR, Sister-in-law Betty Jean Jones, nephew Scott Jones, niece Debbie Snapp and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents J.E and Louise Jones, brother Danny Jones, brother James E. Jones and granddaughter Hannah Elizabeth Jones.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the Ponca City Humane Society at (580) 767-8877 or online at www.pchumane.org/donation-form/
