John P. Jones was born November 10, 1932 in Electra, Texas to Annie and John Wesley Jones. He passed away November 7, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 27 days.
John grew up in Electra, Texas and graduated from Electra High School in 1950. After his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he attended boot camp in Hawaii and served as an assistant machine gunner during the Korean conflict. During his time in Korea he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge on March 9, 1954, he found himself on a double date with Camilla Mary (Eley) Jones and they were married on November 26, 1954 in Vernon, Texas. After their marriage they moved to many places in Texas following John's employment with El Paso Natural Gas. He continued with El Paso Natural Gas throughout his entire career eventually retiring in 1989 as a safety supervisor. John and Camilla moved to Elk City in 1991 to make their home. John enjoyed being the neighborhood mechanic as well as playing cards and dominoes. He also enjoyed volunteering his time at the United Methodist Church thrift shop.
He was preceded in death by parents, his wife of 48 years, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his 4 children, Vicki Kennedy and husband, Shawn, Granite Shoals, TX, Michael Jones and wife, Kathy, Frisco, TX, Natalie Kingston and husband, James, Midland, TX, Holly Reed and husband, Johnny, Elk City, OK; 4 grandchildren, James Kennedy, Granite Shoals, TX, Rachel Kennedy, Austin, TX, Blake Reed and wife, Adrienne, Yukon, OK, Brooklyn Reed, Elk City, OK; 2 great grandchildren, Tyler and Joseph Kennedy, Granite Shoals, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends.
