James Lynn “Jimbo” Jones

James Lynn “Jimbo” Jones
September 12, 1949 ~ July 19, 2023

James “Jimbo” Lynn Jones, Bethany, Oklahoma, who was the son of H. Rollo Jones and Nancy B. Jones, was born September 12, 1949, in Augusta, Arkansas. He lived a vibrant life until his passing on July 19, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. He was raised primarily in Chickasha, Oklahoma by his mother and step-father, John C. Lewis Jr., whom he loved dearly.

He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1967 and then served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Although he volunteered as a Ranger, he served a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969 -70, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following that he graduated from Central State University, now known as the University of Central Oklahoma, as a pre-med student. James spent much of his career in the oil and gas industry where he later owned and operated his own oil well completion service company. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf, sharing lunches, and attending car shows with his brother. He also loved the visits, calls and texts from his nephew Bret and niece Nancy Ruth. They had a special bond.

James was an avid golfer and had a passion for football and gaming. He was a Christian who loved the Lord and had a soft spot for those in need. He volunteered for many years at the Red Andrews Dinner. I’m sure he participated in many more civic endeavors that he didn’t share. He loved his neighbors, especially the children. He tried to put a smile on their faces, showed them how to be good people and how to better their lives. He was a kind soul with a heart of gold.

James is survived by his son, John Christopher Jones Carroll; his daughter, Katy Jones; his sister, Ruth Scanlan; his brother, Johnny Jones; many special nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy B. Lewis “Taylor”; his stepfather, John C. Lewis Jr.; his father, H. Rollo Jones; and a special man in his life, Uncle Tommy Taylor.

We are devastated by this loss, and he will be forever missed. We are lucky to have known and loved him which makes it so hard to say goodbye for now.

James said,

“I lived; I just didn’t watch the world go by. I loved a good fight, a good gamble, and a fair shake. I’m a lover of confrontation. Anyone who knows me at all knows that “happy” is about all this life is about. That’s how I tried to live every day given here. I’ve fought my share of battles-my share of wars. If you feel a breeze on a non-windy day, it might just be me. I wasn’t here, then I was, now I ain't again.

Until we meet again,

James”

Private services will be held for James. Memorial donations may be made to the Red Andrews Christmas Dinner at www.redandrewsdinner.org
