Irene Elizabeth (Wilson) Jones
June 8, 1920 ~ April 6, 2016

Funeral: 2:00 PM Friday, April 8th, 2016 - Billings Funeral Home Chapel

Interment: Friday, April 8th, 2016 - Fairmont Cemetery

Irene Elizabeth Wilson Jones was born June 8, 1920 in Winthrop, Arkansas to Charles Dale and Fannie Mae Hennigh Wilson. While Irene was still a small child, the family moved to Beaver County, OK and settled in the Clearlake Community. Irene was the only girl in the family; she had three brothers, Albert George, (A. G.), Robert and Dale.

Irene's first 8 years of school were spent in a one room school known as Caleyville. She graduated from Laverne High School in 1940. She was selected as a homecoming queen candidate her Senior year. Irene's educational progress was hampered by the Depression, lack of rural bus routes and money. She had to take a break from attending school for a time to earn money to board in town. She was able to achieve her goal of graduating by the time she was 20.

She was no stranger to work. Along with helping her parents, Irene worked for an Aunt and told of the fun times she had working for Beryl Jett on the Jett Ranch. Calvin and Delvin Jett challenged her to many things, including riding a wild steer! She said it was a short ride!

Irene was baptized at Viewpoint Church near Darrouzett, Texas when she was a young girl. She later attended church and Midway and Clearlake near her home.

On August 28, 1941, Irene and Marvin Edward Jones were married at Dodge City, Kansas. They set up housekeeping in the place she would call home for the next 71 years. Marvin and Irene had two sons; Marvin Lynn Jones and Wayne C Jones. The family farmed and ranched and Irene was a help in everything; milking cows, driving the tractor and putting up alfalfa. While milking cows when the boys were small, she would put them in an empty grain bin to keep them safe and out from underfoot! She was a wonderful cook and her grandchildren were spoiled with their favorite foods when visiting their house. Homemade noodles, rice and broccoli casserole and apricot salad were among the favorite dishes. She always had Snickers "hidden" in the stereo cabinet and Coke was available for anytime snacking!

Irene enjoyed oil painting with her close friend and aunt, Lela Hennigh. She was also an accomplished seamstress and stitcher. All her granddaughters learned to embroidery on tea towels in Grandma's living room! Irene made hand quilted and embroidered quilts as keepsakes for all of her grandchildren.

In their later years, Marvin and Irene enjoyed hooking up their camper and spending summers at South Fork, Colorado and winters in Zapata, TX and Bullhead City, Arizona. They also enjoyed taking their family fishing at Lake Supply.

In the Fall of 2012, after living on the farm for so many years, Irene moved to Providence Place in Woodward where she made many new friends. She enjoyed visits from her neighbor from the country, Ethel Black, and cousins who had moved to Woodward as well. Her favorite activity at Providence Place was "Prime Timers" devotion time during the week and the weekly church service on Sunday afternoon. She also looked forward to visits with her Great-Great Granddaughter Emaline who was "the smartest, prettiest baby ever." But then she said that about every one of her grandkids!

Irene entered Heaven after a short illness on April 6, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin in 2001, her parents Charles and Fannie Wilson and Brothers AG and Dale Wilson.

She leaves to celebrate her life, her sons Lynn Jones and Wayne and Marilyn Jones, Grandchildren, Dawn and Leslie Castor, Paula and Bradley Schlegel, Beth and Stacy Jones, David Jones, Jason and Angela Jones and Andrea and Brent Cosby. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildrenSarah and Jacob Kamolz, Molly and Joshua Brooks, Logan and Aiden Logsdon, Seth, Savanna and Sawyer Jones, Brooklin and Kristofer Jones, Austin and Alyssa Jones and Grace and Mindy Cosby and one Great-great Granddaughter, Emaline Kamolz. One brother Robert Wilson, a special niece Loretta Murray and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Ted Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairmont Cemetery in Follett, Texas.
