Gayla Sue Jones, 60, of South Coffeyville, died Sunday in Bartlesville. Gayla's family was by her side, surrounding her with love.
Gayla was born the daughter of Gary Lorn and Shirley (Redden) Busey on Aug. 1, 1957, in Coffeyville, KS. She was raised in South Coffeyville, OK, attending South Coffeyville Elementary before transferring to Lenapah High School and graduating in 1975. When her daughters were young she worked in the school cafeteria. But her favorite job was at the Southern Bingo Palace where she enjoyed her coworkers and the many patrons over many years. Gayla loved children and watched many in her home. She loved them all. She met Tom Jones and they went together for seven years before uniting in marriage on Aug. 14, 2004, in Miami, OK.
Gayla and Tom enjoyed time spent together. They both liked cooking and trying new recipes. Gayla enjoyed family time but also quiet time at home doing her crossword puzzles, reading and embroidery. She baked her world-famous sugar cookies to feed, nourish and most of all, love those around her. Her true passion in life was her kids and grandkids - as she would say simply and proudly, "You guys are my world."
Gayla is survived by her husband Tom Jones of the home; two daughters Misty Wishall and Thomas of Bartlesville, and Nikole Drum and Chris of Derby, KS; two sons, Earl Jones of Coffeyville, and Troy Jones and Alyssa of South Coffeyville; mother Shirley Busey, and two sisters Ronda Muller, and Tony and Lana Busey, all of south Coffeyville; seven grandchildren, Charli, Acie, Brentli and Dawson Drum, Gavin Wishall, Jaicee Jones and Sawyer Jones; and a host of other family and friends. Gayla is preceded in death by her father, one brother Gary Lorn Busey Jr. and one sister Amy Marie Busey.
Gayla's family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Team Drum's Duo, 6950 Squibb Road Suite 310, Mission, KS 66202.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, at First Baptist Church of South Coffeyville, with Pastor Wade Lamb officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Gayla's family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
