Bill McGill Jones

March 21, 1942 ~ July 28, 2021

Services for Bill McGill Jones, 79, of Drumright will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 14 in Marietta's First Baptist Church. He died Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at St. John's Hospital, Tulsa after a valiant fight with declining health.

Bill was born March 21, 1942 in Thackerville to George H. and Margaret V. McGill Jones. They raised Bill and his 11 siblings in Thackerville where they operated a successful farm.

He graduated with the Class of 1960 from Thackerville High School, continuing to help his parents on the farm until he took a lead mixer position with the Southland Paint Company in Gainesville, Texas.

On June 8, 1963, Bill married Cynthia Kaye McLaughlin, and they had three sons together, Kenny (Clark), Mark and Shaun.

In 1969 Bill began his career as a locomotive engineer with Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, now Burlington North Santa Fe Railway. While working for BNSF, Bill continued his love for farming and raising livestock with his sons, expanding the farm by raising game birds.

On April 12, 1995, Bill married Claudia Ann Garrett Lunsford of Marietta, bringing together their combined five children. During this time Bill enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren at his lake house located on Moss Lake.

Bill retired from BNSF in 2002 after 33 years of service.

In 2006 Bill and Claudia relocated to Claudia's hometown of Drumright. Bill continued his love for the outdoors by growing a vegetable garden and raising fruit trees. Bill was a loving husband and father. He was also a very playful Papa who doted over his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia of the home; sister, Ruth Johnson of McKinney, Texas; sons, Kenny (Clark) of Burneyville, Mark of Thackerville, Shaun and husband Adib Abrahim of Dallas, and Brett Lunsford and wife Allyson of Drumright; daughter, Tara and husband Jamie Osterhout of Drumright; three grandsons, Blake Jones and wife Kaydie of Houston, Jordan Jones and wife Ashley of Gainesville and Ranson Jones of Madill; five granddaughters, Brooke Jones of Edmond, Jordan Crossley and husband Garret of Ardmore, Parker Osterhout, Riley Osterhout and Boston Lunsford of Drumright; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson and a multitude of other family members.
