Argie Travis "Bobby" Jones

Argie Travis "Bobby" Jones
July 22, 1963 ~ October 3, 2021 (age 58)

Argie Travis Jones, also known as Bobby by his precious grandchildren whom he loved dearly, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 3, 2021, while at home. He was 58.

Born July 22, 1963 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Alf Jones and Margie (Austin) Jones Gill, Travis attended Shawnee Schools during his elementary years and Tecumseh Christian Academy (TCA) for high school. While attending TCA he began dating his dream girl and future wife, Ramona Lisa Hurst. They married on March 28, 1985 and were together for 36 years. One of the happiest days of his life was when their daughter, Kortnee was born. His face would light up at just the mention of her name. Bobby was faithful to his family and withheld nothing from them. Cherish is the word used to describe.

The little boy Travis was Margie’s baby. His eyes were big and blue and he was constantly into mischief. He was funny and unfiltered. His energy went on for days and his momma giggled at the very sight of him. He acted before thinking and was completely reckless. But he was her baby.

Travis loved the outdoors, sports, and fast cars. He enjoyed watching his step dad, Burton Gill train bird dogs and going hunting. He may or may not have caught many fish, but he could always tell a great fish story. While in school Travis excelled in sports and loved football and basketball. He passed his love of sports to his daughter, Kortnee and his grandchildren. He never missed any of their games or events. Then there was the GTO. Let’s just say that recklessness followed him into his teens and maybe his adulthood. If you know, then you know.

Besides his love of family, Travis was a friend. If he met you, he knew you for life and never withheld a handshake, hug, hello, or smile. If you needed something fixed, rigged, winched out, or advice just give him a call and he was there. He would stop by, drop in, and just ask how you were doing. He would send you texts, call you on the phone, or send you crazy memes on Facebook. He found great humor in sneaking up on you, scaring you, and goosing you. His friends are many and he is loved by all.

He was faithful to the Lord. Travis had the heart of a servant and cared about the house of the Lord. He was a member of Grace Community Church in Tecumseh. Always available, Travis would labor many hours to make the work of the Lord move forward in any way he could. His joyful spirit was childlike and was birthed in his love for Jesus. His favorite Scripture was, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7. He has done just that and is now perfectly healed with his Savior.

Travis is survived by his wife Lisa Jones of the home, daughter and son-in-law Kortnee and James Thomas of Tecumseh, mother Margie Gill of Tecumseh, brother Ed Rider and wife Darla of Shawnee, sister Carolyn Shirey Bevelhymer and husband Jake of Tecumseh, and sister Jo Ann Young and husband David of Tecumseh. Also left to cherish his memory are father-in-law and mother-in-law Lonnie and Linda Hurst, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Eric and Misty Rogers, Dr. Justin and Angie Phillips, and Tyler Hurst, all of Tecumseh, and uncle Gene and Karla Austin of Odessa, Texas. Three grandchildren, Keevan Hill, Ali Thomas, and Brynn Thomas will cherish their memories of Bobby forever. Travis had numerous nieces and nephews and other beloved family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Alf Jones, stepdad Burton Gill, grandmother Evelyn Brumley, nephew Michael Rider, and brother-in-law Barney Shirey.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors of SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital of Shawnee for all the care for Travis over the years. Especially a big thank you to Dr. Tony Haddad for being a wonderful friend and physician.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021 with family gathering to greet friends and family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home. Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee with Rev. Lonnie Hurst and Eric Rogers officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. Please join the celebration of Travis’s life through Cooper Funeral Home’s Facebook page for live streaming of the service. The family also would like memories to be shared on Travis’ facebook page “Travis Jones”.
