Dennis Elliot Johnston, 78, passed away on December 14, 2025, in Grove, Oklahoma. Born on March 29, 1947, Dennis lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his craft.
Dennis proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970 as a Seabee with MCB6. His patriotism and pride in his service remained a cornerstone of his identity throughout his life. Following his military service, Dennis embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a service technician in the oil industry, working from 1970 until his retirement in 2013. His work took him across the United States, fueling his love for travel and exploration.
A man of many talents, Dennis began knife making in the late 1980s and found great joy in sharing this skill with younger generations. His passion for craftsmanship left a lasting legacy among those he mentored. He was also an active member of the American Legion Post #334 in Ramona, Oklahoma.
Dennis was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Annetta; sons Dee Jay (wife Holly) and David (wife Jan); six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind numerous cousins who cherished him dearly. He was predeceased by his grandparents Robert and Louisiana Cary and parents Herbert (Gene) and Josephine (Peggy) Johnston.
A proud Methodist, Dennis’s faith guided him throughout his life. A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post #334 in Ramona, Oklahoma, on May 2 at 11:00 a.m., where friends and family will gather to honor his memory.
Dennis’s legacy of love, patriotism, and craftsmanship will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
