Sammie Priscilla (Toole) Johnson, 74, of McAlester, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at her home.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester. In accordance with Sammie’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Sammie was born February 3, 1952, in McAlester to Joseph and Velma Hannah (Lowry) Toole. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1970 and continued her education at Eastern Oklahoma State College and the University of Central Oklahoma.
She married Don Johnson, and together they shared many years and memories. Sammie worked at Beales Shoe Store and later in the shoe department at JCPenney. She went on to serve for ten years with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, working in Canteen and Property. She later worked at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant as an inspector and warehouse worker until her retirement.
Sammie had a creative spirit and enjoyed arts and crafts. She also had a unique fondness for firework sparklers, which reflected her bright and spirited personality.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Toole; mother, Velma Toole; her daughter, Mandy Johnson in 2016; her children’s father, Don Johnson; brothers, Van Toole and Jack Toole; and her sister, Sue Walker; father-in-law, James Johnson and mother-in-law, Oouida “Woody” Johnson.
Sammie is survived by her daughter, Marketta Johnson of the home; brothers, Joe Toole and John Toole; sister, Sonja Bolding; brother-in-law, Joe Pat Johnson and wife Sherri; her dear friend, Jan Harrington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Sammie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
