Mattie Sue (Lewis) Johnson

Mattie Sue (Lewis) Johnson
January 7, 1928 ~ April 28, 2016

Mattie Sue Johnson, age 88, passed peacefully away in the early morning on April 28, 2016.

Sue was born January 7, 1928 in the Western hills of Arkansas to Elmer Lewis and Emma May (Glover) Lewis. She grew up in many different communities, including Bartlesville, Claremore, Tulsa, Waco, Texas, and even parts of the Mid-west. She eventually made her home in the Bartlesville and Nowata areas.

Sue worked for many years at the downtown Bartlesville IGA grocery store, and later at the IGA in Pennington Hills. Upon marrying Henry Johnson in 1970 she retired from the grocery business to become a full-time rancher's wife

Sue was actively involved in the Hillside Christian Church of Nowata and was a great lover of flower gardening and birds and animals of all types.

Sue was preceded in her death by her parents, her husband, H.L. Johnson, her sister, Blanche Nelson, her step-daughter, Karen Selby, and her step-son, Joe Johnson.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Linda McDaniel and husband Jack of Cascade Co., her son Chuck Hall and wife Becca of Bartlesville, her step-daughter Bonnie Workman and husband Dale of Nowata, her grandson Casey McKee of Colorado Springs, and many more grandchildren and great grandchildren from all sides of the family.

Honoring Sue's wishes, she has been cremated by the Stumpff funeral home and no memorial will be held. Anyone wishing to honor Sue's life and passing may do so by donating to the Journey Home Foundation or the Comforting Hands Hospice, both of Bartlesville. They are wonderful non-profit organizations that provided much comfort and loving care to Sue in her last weeks of life.
