James Earl Johnson, born December 25, 1933, departed from this life on September 30, 2013 at the age of 79. He was born to Earl Johnson and Jennie (Gisvold) Johnson.
He grew up in Vesper, Wisconsin, attended schools in Wisconsin Rapids and then graduated from high school at Pittsville, Wisconsin in 1953.
After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy on July 15, 1953 and served aboard ship in Hawaii and participated in Operation Wigwam in 1955 ( an underwater atomic test)for which he received a Certificate of Commendation. He was released from active duty in June of 1957 and received his Honorable Discharge in July of 1961.
He was married to Ruthann Jean Borth on January 31, 1958 at Stevens Point, Wisconsin. After their marriage he came to Bartlesville and went to college at Central Pilgrim College where he studied to be a minister.
During his college years he pastored the Church of the Brethren and The Friends Church. After graduation from college he pastored in Hannibal, MO., Sloan, Iowa, Clarksville, Iowa, Denison, Iowa, Scottville, MI, Middleton, MI, Ashland, Ohio, Cushing, OK., Junction City, Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. He loved the people and they loved him back. His main love was for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and bringing others to Him.
Jim was an artist also. He especially loved drawing railroad depots. In his last years he did a lot of craft work, a lot of bird houses which he enjoyed very much.
Rev. Johnson is survived by his wife, Ruthann Johnson of Bartlesville, four children, Brenda Lea Clay and husband Brad of Tulsa, Timothy James Johnson and wife Tammy of Lexington, Ohio, Carla Jean Lee and husband Larry of Stevens Point, WI, and Rhonda Joy Muzljakovich and husband Steven of Bartlesville, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the Medicalodge of Dewey, P.O. Box 520, Dewey, Oklahoma, 74029.
Services for Rev. Johnson will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dave Compston of the Westside Baptist Church officiating. Memorial services and cremation are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home.
The Johnson family will receive guests at the family home located at 4017A S.E. Sheridan Road in Bartlesville on Wednesday evening from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.
