Helen Brown Johnson was born October 20, 1919 to Lottie and John C. Brown in LaMonte, Missouri. She moved to Gage with her family in 1924 when she was five years old to a farm northwest of Gage. The family moved in three Model T cars, cutting the back down on one of them to hold more furniture. There were no pickups yet in those days. Helen went to Gage schools and graduated from Gage High School in 1937. She was married to Orville Johnson on October 28, 1938 in Gage and lived north of Gage on a farm. To this union two children were born, Beverly and Ricky Johnson.

They bought a farm in southeast Kansas and moved there in 1949 where they lived until moving back to Woodward to retire in 1993. Helen worked at Boeing in Wichita for awhile, Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas during the war, then the Hepler State Bank for 22 years until she retired. She loved gardening, working with flowers and craft work.

Helen was a member of the Christian Church in Hepler where she taught Sunday School and helped with Bible School and worked with CWF Womens Group. She joined the First Christian Church in Woodward when moving here. Helen was a member of the Eastern Star and White Shriners of Jerusalem.

She is survived by one daughter Beverly Ebey and husband Bob of Bethany; one son Ricky Johnson and wife Freida of Choctaw; five grandchildren, Shelly Tignor, Curtis Johnson and wife Karen, Tammy Wood and husband Joe, all of Oklahoma City; Cheryl Trapp and husband Scott of McKinney, Texas; Dorene Holmes of Carrollton, Texas; six great grandchildren, six Step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, Beaulah Fowler, Ruby Hill, Fern Farr; three brothers, Lewis Brown, Donnie Brown, Bill Brown.

Memorials may be made to Woodward First Christian Church with the funeral home accepting the memorials.
