Ethel Mae Johnson

BOVINA - Ethel Mae Johnson, 94, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, in Clovis, N.M.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bovina Church of Christ with Mike Prather, minister, and David Bennett of Portales, N.M., officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona.

Mrs. Johnson had lived in Bovina since 1930, moving from Oklahoma. She was a member of Bovina Church of Christ. She was a 1926 graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, Okla.

She taught Sunday school at Bovina Church of Christ for more than 50 years. She was a member of Bovina Senior Citizens and a charter member of Oklahoma Lane Home Demonstration Club.

She received the Heritage Award from Bovina Chamber of Commerce in 1999. She married Levi Johnson on Dec. 23, 1929, in Arapaho, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 30, 1985.

Survivors include a son, Billy Johnson of Farwell; a daughter, Betty Lowrie of Midwest City, Okla.; a brother, Ralph Ashby of Edmond, Okla.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to New Mexico Christian Home, 1356 N.M. 236, Portales, N.M., 88130.
