Services: Monday, July 26, 10 a.m.
Services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., for Della Mae (Long) Johnson, 83, who passed away July 21, 2004. Chaplain Chuck Simonson will officiate.
Della was born, July 23, 1920, to Arthur and Jonnie Francis in Pushmataha County, Choctaw Nation, Oklahoma. Arthur was a farmer and a sheriff of two counties before retiring. Jonnie was a housewife. Della was one of ten children, one of which was her twin sister. She married Norman Long in 1937 in Oklahoma. They moved to Kern County near Buttonwillow, CA, where they raised their family of five on the Tracy Ranch. Norman passed away in 1974.
Many years later, Della married Richard Johnson and remained in Kern County. Her husband, Richard, preceded her in death in 1986. Della was a hard working and a loving woman all her life. She did many charity efforts on her own for years. She was a wonderful friend to anyone she met and aided all families she found who were in need. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed being with family and friends. She spent her last seven years being cared for by her daughter, Darlene.
Her five children survive her: James Long of Taft, CA, LeeRoy and his wife, Caroline Long of Taft, Thelma and Earl Herwig of Carrollton, TX, Judy and Phil Pepperdine of Kimberly, Idaho, and Darlene and Richard Sanford of Bakersfield. In addition to many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as her brother, John Francis of Statesboro, Georgia and sisters, Mariece Cook of Yuma, AZ and Judy Francis of Somerset, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hoffmann Hospice. The family would also like to thank Lori, Kathy, Patty and Chuck of Hoffmann Hospice for the wonderful care of their loved one Della Mae Johnson.
Visitation begins Saturday, 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
