David Henry Johnson passed away peacefully at his home in Covington, Oklahoma on Friday, February 16, 2018 after a long battle with cancer, he was 69 years old. David was born on April 16, 1948 in Enid, Oklahoma to Everett and Elizabeth Johnson and grew up in Covington.
In August of 1967 he joined the Army and honorably served two tours for his country in Vietnam. He married the love of his life Barbara Johnson (Cronister), March 6, 1969, they were married 48 years.
After returning from Vietnam, David began a 20 year career working with R. L. Frailey of Perry as a fabricator/welder. He spent a few years working for Mercury Marine in Stillwater and then worked for Tom & Robert Cassody in Covington until he retired. He was an extraordinary husband, father, Grandfather, and friend. He loved spending time with his beloved family and friends and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and frogging with his loved ones.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Covington and sons Jeff and wife Kathi of Hillsboro, MO, Brian and wife Jennifer of Nash, OK, and Douglas of Covington, OK; Grandchildren (Jeff and Kathi) Daryl and husband Dilg, Robert DeRosia, Destiny Campbell, J.D. Johnson, Grace Johnson and Great Grandchild Ethan; (Brian and Jennifer) Amanda and husband Josh Chenausky, Krissinda and husband Josh Hankins, Jessica Johnson, Christopher & Brittany (Burchardt) Hurst, Kalob Hurst, Daultin Cronister-Johnson, Daelee Cronister-Johnson, Joslynn Johnson and Great-grandchildren Rhielei, Joshua, Braden, Kristian, and Kassydi; very special friends Terry and Becky Reinhardt of Covington; sisters in laws, Kathy, Pam, Gail, and Debbie; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Carol McVicker of Covington.
Services will be held at the Covington Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February, 23rd, 2018.
