Carl Bluford Johnson

Carl Bluford Johnson
June 05, 1930 - September 09, 2019

Carl Bluford Johnson, the man with many titles, Dad, Grampa, Uncle, Brother, but first and foremost friend to all, was 89 years old when he passed away on September 9, 2019. One of EIGHT children born to Myrtle and Carl Johnson in Jackson County, Oklahoma. His siblings are Lloyd, Jacqueline, Donald, Nelda, Gleola, Janett and Charles. He is survived by brother, Donald; sister, Jacqueline; five children and 19 grandchildren. He spent his youth in Humphries, Oklahoma, chasing skunks with his little brother Charles, teasing his younger sisters’ animals, and picking cotton in the Fall.

He joined the Army in May of 1952, serving with the 82nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, battery A. where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in February of 1954 at the rank of Sergeant.

Carl received his BS and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Oklahoma State University.

He Married Wanda Nell in 1954 and they had twins, Barry and Brian.

On March 12, 1976 he married Bonnie, and lovingly acquired four additional children; Ronald, Sandra, Michael, and Brenda.

Carl retired from FAA after 42 years of civil service.

Carl was an avid rock hunter and fisherman. He practiced his lapidary skills for over 50 years. Family cherishes the memories made fishing from Lake Overholser, Lake Hefner, Red River, Lake Texoma, and Alaska.

He was a proud 32rd degree Mason, the Scottish Rite along with his father and brothers Lloyd and Donald.

Even in his death, he reassured others he was OK, that this isn’t Goodbye, Simply See you later.

Viewing will be Thursday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Friday, September 13, 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Donations to the American Cancer Society may be made in his name.
