Betty Maxine (Mohney) Johnson

November 4, 1925 ~ January 5, 2024

Betty Maxine Johnson passed peacefully from this life on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the age of 98 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was born in Medford, Ok on November 4, 1925 to John and Floy Ruth Mohney. She married Wilbert (Webb) Johnson December 23, 1945 in Corbin Methodist Church, Corbin, Kansas. He preceded her in death June 1, 2013.

For 67 ½ years together, they farmed, raised a family and were actively involved with church and the community. Betty taught school as an emergency teacher during WWII. She and Webb always enjoyed getting together with friends and family and entertaining. Betty was legendary for her cooking and ability to feed large crowds of family, friends, and farm workers.

After their retirement, they moved to Wellington, Kansas where they continued their previous friendships and made many new ones. They worked in crafts together, gardened, and enjoyed traveling in their RV. They later downsized to Tonkawa, Oklahoma, continuing their active lives.

After Webb passed away, Betty relocated to Ponca City to be closer to family. As was Betty’s style, she quickly made new friends, was always available to lend a helping hand and cooked for anyone she thought would enjoy a meal or a treat. Everyone was welcomed into her home. She maintained an interest in new trends, world news and all those around her. She cared deeply for her family, never forgot a birthday, and made time to stay in touch with each and every one of them.

In addition to her husband, Betty is preceded in death by her two sons, John and Dale, brothers Wayne, Harold and Ed Mohney, two sisters Myrtle Whaley and Jeannie Kiewning. Surviving her are her sister Mary Heeney and brother Donny (Donald) Mohney, her daughter Wilberta Goff (Kelly) and her two daughters-in-law, Ruth Johnson and Marilyn Johnson. In addition are her grandchildren Jona (Mark), Chad (Alesa), Chris (Jennifer) Lindsi (Devin), Shayla, Clayton (Jenna), Jay (Jill) and eleven great grandchildren.
