Brenda Karen Jernigan, age 74 of Newcastle, entered Heaven's gates Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Brenda was born March 11, 1944 in Shreveport, LA, the 3rd of 4 children born to Ray Hugh Basinger and Blanche (Maynor) Basinger.
She was raised in Shreveport and attended school there, graduating in 1962. In her early 20's, Brenda moved to Oklahoma City. By divine appointment, she met a young man who lived in the same apartment complex. His name was Melvin Ryan Jernigan. They fell in love and were married July 19, 1969 in Oklahoma City. They made their home in Newcastle where together they raised their daughters, Nancy and Becky.
Brenda worked for more than 20 years for Oklahoma Electrical Supply Co., retiring as an Administrative Assistant. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Brenda cherished Ryan, her girls and especially her grandchildren, Kaci, Ashlyn, Logan and Bayley. She loved Jesus, was a woman of great faith, and was courageous in sharing His plan of salvation. She loved her church family, the First Baptist Church of Newcastle. She had a servant's heart and shared the love of Christ by teaching youth and children's Sunday School, decorating the church and helping those in need. Brenda was genuine in her kindness and truly cared about people. Her smile was infectious and she always looked for the positives in life. She will be dearly missed
