Mary “Lorene” (Hixson) Jackson, 86 year old resident of Woodward, OK, passed from this life in Woodward Regional Hospital on February 5, 2016. Lorene was born on November 7, 1929 to Earnest and Mary (Thompson) Hixson. She grew up in Packsaddle, OK, south of Arnett, and southeast of Harmon. Lorene attended Grand and Lone Star Schools in Arnett, OK. She attended high school at Vici High School and graduated with the class of 1947.
On March 20, 1947 Lorene united in marriage with Bob Jackson in Canadian, TX. They lived their first year together in Vici, OK. They moved to Enid, OK in 1948 and then to Eugene, OR in 1955. Because of Lorene’s love of flowers, Lorene started a nursery business at their home in Eugene and also opened a flower shop in the town. In 1981 Lorene and Bob moved back to Harmon, OK and in 1997 they moved to Woodward, OK were she resided until her death.
Lorene was a homemaker and she had many hobbies which included reading and taking care of her dog. Most of all she loved taking care of flowers. It was said give her a stick and she would make it grow. Although Lorene had no children of her own, she claimed all her nieces and nephews as her own children. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Lorene is preceded in death by her husband Bob Jackson; parents Ernest and Mary Hixson; sister Nora McCleery; brothers-in-law Jack McCleery, Bob Humberg, Gary Moore, and Ralph Anderson; and nephew David McCleery.
She is survived by her sister Geneva Humber of Shelton, WA; sister-in-law Jerri Anderson of Kent, WA; nieces Beverly Sweet of Vici, OK, Nancy Nosler of Woodward, OK, Carol Murray of Port Angales, WA, LáKeta Morse of Bellingham, WA, Joni Moore of Seattle, WA, and Shelly Oliver of Brownwood, TX; nephews Victor Anderson of Seattle, WA, Tony McCleery of Packwood, WA, Craig McCleery of Vici, OK; great-niece Dana Norris of Cordell, OK and Tiffany Lyon of Woodward, OK; and many other great-nieces and nephews, great great-nieces and nephews, and friends.
