Virginia Louise (Cummings) Irvin

Virginia Louise (Cummings) Irvin
June 13, 1939 ~ February 13, 2020

Virginia Louise Irvin, 80, of Burlington, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, February 13th, 2020 at Hospice Home, Burlington, North Carolina.

Virginia was born June 13th, 1939 in Reydon, Oklahoma to the late Isaac and Ethell (Mann) Cummings. On November 30, 1956 in Borger, Texas she was united in marriage to Ralph G. Irvin and to this union three children were born; Dewayne, Diana and Timothy.

Shortly after Virginia and Ralph were married, the US Army drafted Ralph and thought it best to have him serve overseas. Virginia and her infant son lived with her Mother-In-Law and Father-In-Law while he served. After Ralph had fulfilled his duty to Uncle Sam, the family settled in Del City, OK where Virginia worked for various doctors. She was active in the Del City Church of Christ. In 1975 Virginia and family move to Warner Robins, GA. She continued her occupation working for medical doctors until she finally settled in the banking industry for the remainder of her career. Virginia was active in the Corder Road Church of Christ where she served as the wife of a deacon in addition to many other activities. Upon retiring in 1989, Virginia and Ralph moved back to OK where they settled on 10 acres near family. Virginia spent her retirement years living the country life, quilting, growing a garden and canning vegetables. After 22 years Virginia and Ralph moved to Burlington, NC to be near their daughter Diana. For the nine years in NC preceding her death, Virginia was active in the Mebane Street Church of Christ. She set a goal to host dinners in her home for a few church members at a time until she had hosted all the congregation. She felt it was a good way to get to know one another and have fellowship. Virginia succeeded in that goal in addition to hosting many domino night fellowships in her house.

Virginia was preceded in death by her son Dewayne Irvin and is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Ralph Irvin of Burlington, North Carolina, daughter Diana Hensley and her husband Robert Hensley of Burlington, North Carolina, son Timothy Irvin and his wife Belinda Irvin of Jupiter, Florida, along
with three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Virginia was one of 21 children and has many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by all but five brothers and sisters ~ Dorothy Mae of Salem, Oregon, Donald Ray of Panhandle, Texas, Glenda Ruth of Smithville, Tennessee, Linda Sue of Greenville, South Carolina, and Charles Wilburn of Clovis, New Mexico.
