Gene Irvin, age 69 of Newcastle went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, July 5, 2004 at his home.
He was born August 13, 1934 in Henryetta, Okla. the oldest of five children born to Carl George Irvin and Faye Alene Wilkinson Irvin. He grew up in Henryetta and graduated from Henryetta High School in 1953 where he played football.
He attended one year of college at Wilburton. He later met Yvonne Reeves from McAllen, Texas and they were married in Nov. 1955 in Oklahoma City. Together they raised six children.
They made their home in Oklahoma City for 13 years where he drove a truck for Yellow Freight Lines. In 1968 they moved to Atoka where he began working as an appliance repairman. He worked for Montgomery Wards, Sears and owned his own business "ABC Appliance."
In 1994 they moved to Newcastle where he owned and operated Tri City Repair. During his seven years of business in the Tri City area he made many loyal friends.
Gene loved music and was an excellent musician. He played several instruments including the banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica. He also enjoyed singing with his family and church family.
After his retirement he liked to travel and attend church camps.
He was a member of the Newcastle Church of the First Born.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, a special brother and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Russell; and two sisters, Alta Faye Scott and Rose as an infant.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne of the home; four sons, Chris Irvin and wife Terry of Newcastle, Brent Irvin and wife Lisa of Newcastle, Jon Irvin and wife Tahna of Oklahoma City, and Jeremy Irvin and wife April of Newcastle; two daughters, Janette Lytle and husband Ted of Lone Grove and Julie Hudnall and husband Sarge of Adairville, Ky.; one brother, Ray Irvin and wife Deanne of Oklahoma City; one sister, Wilma Moody of Del City; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends that are just like family.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2004 at Newcastle Church Of The First Born. Pallbearers will be Terry Moody, Mike Reeves, Jeff Reeves, Wade Scott, Tory Sweet and Darrell Solomon.
