Harold Dean Hutchison

Harold Dean Hutchison
January 20, 1924 ~ July 29, 2020

Harold Dean Hutchison, son of Warren James and Elsie Martha (Inman) Hutchison, was born at Grandpa Robert Inman’s home place near Togo, OK. on January 20, 1924. On July 29, 2020, at the age of 96 years, 6 months and 9 days, Harold joined his beloved wife, Tomalene, in their heavenly home. He had been waiting 1 year and 21 days for their reunion.

Harold grew up in the scenic Gloss Mountains in Major county along the Cimarron River. He began his school years in 1929 at Togo, OK. a community southeast of Waynoka, OK. and graduated from Cheyenne Valley High School in 1941. He attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva, OK. thru 1942 majoring in Journalism. With the onset of WWII, Harold joined the Army Air Corp, he attained the rank of Corporal while serving his country for three years and three months. At Salina, KS. on January 11, 1946, just before his honorable discharge from the service, Harold was united in marriage to the love of his life, Tomalene H. Vaughan. It was a lifelong commitment of over 73 years. They established their first home and farmed near Lazbuddie, Tx., the community where Tomalene was raised. Four children blessed their home, Sheryl Dene, Twylah Jean, Galen Charles and Stephen Lee. They moved from Lazbuddie, TX. and lived near Waynoka, OK. in 1949, Wichita, KS. in 1953 and Cloudcroft, N.M. from 1955 until 1965. The river ranch they had purchased in Ellis County on the South Canadian River lured them to become permanent Vici, OK. residents in 1965.

Harold was a man of strong faith, he was baptized in 1948 at the Church of Christ in Lazbuddie, TX. and was a faithful member of the Vici Church of Christ. He was active in missionary work, teaching Bible classes and served as song and prayer leader. He was also a member of the American Legion and participated in Veterans activities.

Harold’s life was full of adventures. He was a rancher, a jet aircraft inspector, an insurance salesman, a realtor and owned and managed a resort. Harold worked for the Santa Fe Railway in Waynoka, OK, worked for Bowing Aircraft in Wichita, KS, worked for White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and worked for Howard Hughes in California. He was a proud cattleman, was fascinated with rock collecting and airplanes. In later years he authored a weekly article in the local newspaper. He often reflected on his childhood days in the Gloss Mountains and related special memories of the river ranch in Ellis County. Harold lived life to the fullest and will be remembered for his friendly visits, his faith and devotion to his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Elsie Hutchison, his wife and soul mate, Tomalene Hutchison, and his son, Galen Charles Hutchison.

Harold is survived by his children, Sheryl Gameros and husband Pete, of Oklahoma City, OK., Twylah Guy and husband Rodney, of Vici, OK., and Stephen Hutchison of Vici, OK. Nine special grandchildren, fourteen great grands and one great great grandchild, other relatives and friends.

No Services are scheduled at this time.
