Max Raymond Hutchins died July 8, 2017, at age 95. He was born August 4, 1921, to Russ and Varene Granger Hutchins, on a farm near Cawker City, Kan.
Max spent his childhood in Glen Elder, Kan., graduating from Glen Elder High School in 1939.
Max was employed by Glenn L. Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, Md., from 1941 to 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 as a Sergeant in Air Flight Control at bases in Canada and Alaska.
Max graduated from Kansas State University in 1949, with a BS in Business. He worked at Kansas Power and Light in Topeka, Kan. He was a schoolteacher for a time.
Max married Virginia Copeland of Great Bend, Kan., on May 6, 1951, and they moved to Enid in 1952.
He was employed by Groendyke Transport as an accountant for 40 years, until retirement in 1992.
Max was a member of the Friendship Class at First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He volunteered at Leonardo's Children's Museum, and enjoyed golfing and fishing throughout his life.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Ted Hutchins, and one sister, Florence Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife on May 5, 2011, the day before their 60th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his three children: sons, Mark and wife Shirley of Lubbock, Texas, and Richard and wife Diane of Oklahoma City, and a daughter, Anne Edmonds and husband Brad of Ponca City.
Max has six grandsons, Michael, Grant, Kyle, Jon, Maxwell, and Joseph, and two granddaughters, Melanie and Marie. He also has five great-grandchildren.
Max is survived by his brother, George and wife June of Topeka, Kan., and a sister-in-law, June Hutchins of Seneca, S.C.
Max was a kind and generous man with a big heart. He will be truly missed.
A celebration of his life is planned for a future date.
