Arlene G. (Johnson) Hutchens

October 3, 1925 ~ October 9, 2004

Memorial services for Arlene G. "Gen" Hutchens, 79, of Chickasha, will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Arlene G. Hutchens was born October 3, 1925, in Westby, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lief Johnson and Alma Nilson Johnson, She died October 9, 2004, in Oklahoma City.

Gen grew up in Westby, Wisconsin, where she attended and graduated from high school.

She married Clair Hutchens on May 20, 1948, in Westby, Wisconsin.

After her marriage they moved to Viola, Wisconsin, to work on a dairy farm, and later moved to Westby, where they share-rented a dairy farm for the next five years. By this time she was blessed with three daughters, Anita, Rita, and Gail, and a son, Steve.

In August 1954, they bought a farm near Ontario, Wisconsin, where they milked a herd of Jersey cattle and raised alfalfa hay, oats and corn to feed their herd. They also raised a few acres of tobacco as a cash crop.

Gen worked hard on the family farm raising her four children, keeping the milk house clean and spending hours every summer hoeing the weeds out of the tobacco field.

She enjoyed life, especially quilting, painting and spending time with her family.

Gen and Clair moved to Chickasha in 1990, where they settled into retirement.

She was preceded in death by both parents and two daughters, Anita and Rita Hutchens.

Survivors include her husband, Clair, of the home; one son, Steve Hutchens of Chickasha; one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Carl Pieper, of Kannapolix, North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Nathan Pieper and Sara Pieper; and one great granddaughter, Madison Thompson. Memorials may be made to Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
