Norma Hunt was born July 15, 1914, the daughter of John and Ollie Parker of Roll, Oklahoma. She was born at the family home. John was a farmer who also became county sheriff. Part of Norma's life was lived in the house attached to the jail. She attended school at the one room Roll school house which is now a museum piece in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. She graduated from Cheyenne High School.
Norma became the wife of Paul Norris Hunt in March of 1933. She was working in the Roger Mills County tax office and he had became county treasurer upon the death of his father. To their union was born Paul Duane Hunt now residing with wife Deanna in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Ronald Wayne Hunt now residing with his wife Anita in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
During war time they moved to Los Angeles, California. Returning to Western Oklahoma as the war was concluding the couple purchased a store in Elk City, Oklahoma and then one in Strong City, Oklahoma. In addition to running the store while Paul farmed, she also tested cream, sold gas and raised her two sons.
Norma played the piano by ear and always loved music. She was the church pianist and very active in all church and community activities.
The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1957 as Paul taught school and Norma worked for the Tulsa Public Schools as a cook in several schools. They joined the Immanuel Baptist Church and remained faithful Immanuelites throughout her remaining years. She was a member of one of the first Church Senior Choirs, the Heart Throbs. Her faith was obvious to all who knew Norma and served with her in teaching Sunday School, supporting missions and reaching out into the community.
She was a gregarious fun loving encouraging neighbor and friend.
Her final years were spent at the Health Center of University Village. The family expresses thanks to the staff, nurses and administration for many kindness. In the final days they were appreciative of the team of Sojourn Care Hospice. Norma departed this life on March 4, 2011 leaving two sons and their wives, seven grandchildren and spouses and, eighteen great grandchildren.
