Charles Wesley Hunt, lovingly known as Charlie, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 92. Born on May 2, 1932, in Humboldt, Kansas, to James Henry Hunt and Clara Bertha Wilhite-Hunt, Charlie lived a full and remarkable life defined by hard work, dedication to family, and an enduring love for his craft.
Charlie’s journey began in Humboldt, where he developed a strong work ethic that would carry him through a lifetime of achievements. From a young age, he worked as a pipeliner, a career that became both his livelihood and passion. Charlie embarked on a long and distinguished career with CRC Evans Pipeline in Tulsa, OK as a pipeline equipment serviceman. His work took him across the globe to nearly every continent, where he left his mark not only through his expertise but also through the friendships he forged along the way. After more than 35 years with CRC Evans, Charlie transitioned into pipeline inspection before retiring. Yet even in retirement, his love for pipelining remained steadfast.
Charlie married the love of his life, Eleanor “Sally” Jean Hunt, on December 31, 1968. They met in Wisconsin but settled in Oologah, Oklahoma. Together they built a home and life filled with love and shared experiences. On May 2, 1975—his birthday—they adopted their daughter Heather Lynn Hunt-Lowther. Charlie often said she was the best birthday gift he ever received.
A man of many talents and interests, Charlie was known for his resourcefulness and willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether it was welding, sandblasting, woodworking, or building something from scratch, if you could imagine it, Charlie could make it happen. He spent countless hours working on projects such as crafting fishing lures or constructing his shop on their property. His hobbies reflected his love for both ingenuity and connection: fishing, playing cards and dominoes with friends during retirement years, riding lawn mowers with his grandchildren, growing vegetables in his garden, playing horseshoes and pool, and spending cherished time with family.
Charlie’s dedication to others extended beyond his immediate circle. He was recently honored with a 60-year membership pin and certificate from the Masonic Fraternity and was also an Akdar Shriner. These affiliations underscored his commitment to community service, fellowship and patriotism.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of over 56 years, Eleanor “Sally” Jean Hunt of Oologah; their daughter Heather Lynn Lowther and her husband Jeff Lowther of Owasso; grandsons Ty and Trenton Lowther of Owasso; granddaughter McKenzie Lowther of Eugene, Oregon; and his brother Calvin Hunt and wife Sandy of Broken Arrow. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Henry Hunt and Clara Bertha Wilhite-Hunt; sister Mary Murrell and her husband Sam Murrell; brother Clifford Hunt and wife Jo Hunt; and brother Jim Hunt and wife Yvonne Hunt.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held on March 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Oologah Community Center located at 126 S Maple St., Oologah, OK 74053. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor Charlie’s legacy and share memories of a man who touched so many lives.
Charles Wesley Hunt will be remembered as a man of few words but of immense impact—a devoted husband, father, grandfather “Pa”, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, craftsman, pipeliner, Shriner, Mason—and above all else—a man who lived life with purpose and heart. May his memories of a life well lived bring comfort to all who knew him.
