James Humphrey, age 95, of Tulsa, formerly from Enid, was born on November 25, 1925 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to J.C. and Nita Alderson Humphrey, and passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Montereau Health Center. The Humphreys moved to Enid when Jim was four, where he met his life-long friend, Dennis L. Porter over a fence. They passed 10 months apart from each other, culminating a 90-year friendship.

Jim graduated from Enid High School in 1943 and attended the University of Texas. He then served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Upon his return, Jim graduated from Oklahoma A&M University and began his career at Humphrey Abstract Company in Enid. There, he met and married Beth Ferguson on August 1, 1954. Jim was also a real estate developer with Humphrey, Rogers and McClure, as well as an avid potter and Native American art collector.

Survivors include his three daughters; Lisa Mesmer and husband Paul, of Tulsa; Laura Humphrey and husband Jay Mahoney, of Rochester, NY; and Lanna Schelbar and husband Joe, of Tulsa; six grandchildren, James, Michele, Ethan, Cullen, Nick and Natalie; brother-in-law Tim Ferguson and wife Norma, of Enid; as well as nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Humphrey, Marilyn Humphrey, and his wife Beth.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Montereau staff of the Chateau and the Villa. A private family gathering will be held at a future date. Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, Enid, Oklahoma.

Jim touched many peoples’ lives throughout his years and will be deeply missed.
