Edlyn Gayle (Sapp) Humphrey

Edlyn Gayle (Sapp) Humphrey
March 7, 1947 ~ January 11, 2013

Edlyn Gayle Humphrey, 65, of Midwest City passed away January 11, 2013. She was born March 7, 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Ed and Rita Sapp of Mesquite, Texas. She was raised with siblings Ann Barker (deceased), Patricia Burns, Janet Sapp and David Horstman.

Gayle grew up as an Army "brat" with fond memories of her family living in Taiwan on an Army compound and a long ship ride back to the US in the 1950s, being chased by her sister Ann with a spider at Ft. Hood, Texas, and skipping school to go to Six Flags Over Texas with friends during her Senior year. She treasured time spent with her baby sisters, Tricia and Janet, while they were growing up. She recalled her dad, the "Colonel", flashing the porch light as a signal that she had spent enough time saying goodnight to boyfriends and that it was time to come inside. She thought of her mom as a terrific cook, a great seamstress that made most of her and her sisters" clothes, and a woman with more grace than anyone she has ever known.

Gayle graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas in 1965, Crum"s Beauty College, Manhattan, Kansas, in 1979, and proudly graduated with honors with a Bachelors of Business Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, Oklahoma in 1993.

Her favorite working years were as a hair stylist at Lords And Ladies Salon in Manhattan, Kansas.

Gayle married David Humphrey in 1976, and they have had a wonderful, happy marriage these last 36 years. Gayle was extremely proud of her two daughters, Lara and Staci, and the beautiful women, wonderful wives and caring moms that they had become, and loved their husbands, Greg and Audie, like they were her own sons. Gayle loved her grandchildren with all her heart, giving them each a special name. Samantha Satterfield (deceased) was her Angel, Ryan Tillman was her Love, Darren Tillman was her Faith, Blake Satterfield was her Dream Maker, Cameron Jackson was her Miracle, Noah Tillman was her Joy, Anya Tillman was her Precious, and Zane Satterfield was her Blessed.

Spoiling her grandkids was a favorite pastime for Gayle, including having them over for sleepovers (no rules, all fun!!!), camping trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, plus a trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City.

Gayle loved cooking, sewing, crafting, gardening, camping and music-her favorite singers included Johnny Mathis, Josh Groban, and Alan Jackson. Gayle has always loved dogs, calling them her babies, especially Corgis and Dachshunds. She terribly missed her "Pishy" that passed away a couple of years ago.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oklahoma Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
