Mary V. Hummer

Sept. 26, 1903 ~ June 7, 2002

BOOKER - Mary V. Hummer, 98, died Friday, June 7, 2002.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church of Perryton with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Knighton and Ralph Maxfield officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Hummer was born in Mutual (Indian Territory), Okla., to Levi and Leota Morgan, on Sept. 26, 1903. She was a charter member of the First Christian Church in Booker.

She married Dave Hummer on March 3, 1921, in Arnett, Okla., a marriage which lasted 71 years until his death in 1992. After marriage they settled on a farm north of Huntoon where they made their home until 1962 when they built their home four miles west of Booker.

At the age of 10, she made her confession of faith in Christ and was baptized in Mutual, Okla. This faith never wavered and along with her husband, who also embraced a deep Christian commitment, they established a home built on Christian values. She will be remembered by her faith, her service to others, her wit and her love.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; a daughter, Marjorie Urban; a son, David Hummer; her parents; two sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include four daughters, Pauline Duke of Big Cabin, Okla., Mary Hummer of Amarillo, Martha Hall of Booker and Florence Conley of Perryton; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Marjorie Urban Scholarship Fund in care of Perryton National Bank, P.O. Box 969, Perryton, TX 79070; or to the Ochiltree County Hospice Volunteers, 3101 Garrett Drive, Perryton, TX 79070; or to a favorite charity.
