Durvis Wayne "Red" Hulen

Durvis Wayne "Red" Hulen
August 03, 1935 ~ June 18, 2017

Lawton Ok. Durvis "Wayne" Hulen a.k.a. Red Hulen passed away peacefully on June 18, 2017. He was born Aug. 3, 1935 in Detroit Texas, he was the youngest of 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He was born to Felix "Van Dyke" Hulen and Mary Louise Hulen. Red Hulen was an "energetic" man of many talents. His " passions" were many and  deep. With a single-minded focus he first attacked golf, elk hunting, then snow skiing, and finally cycling. Those who knew him will attest to his dedicated work ethic and willingness to "give" more and "take" less. If we remember nothing else about Red Hulen, we will remember his tremendous energy, every task was completed with speed and laser like sense of purpose, he didn't wait for the grass to grow he attacked it with vengeance, just like he attacked everything he did.

He graduated in 1954 from Midwest City H.S. He then attended Cameron University where he competed on their golf team, then transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he served in the Air National Guard. It wasn't long after that that he met the "love of his life"  Sharon at Hermans Drive-In. It was at this point he began focusing on Real Estate – Homebuilding, and eventually building the foundation for his future family.

His contributions to the building and Real Estate were vast. One of his proudest contributions was being on the founding committee of the Home Owners Warranty a.k.a H.O.W. program. Due to his contributions homebuilders in Oklahoma were given an affordable and effective 10 year structural insurance plan for all new homes.

Red had many fantastic friends who influenced his life. None were more precious to Red than those at the end who introduced Red to cycling. He was particularly excited about life as a result of these special men.

A celebration of life of Durvis Wayne "Red" Hulen will be held at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home in Lawton, Ok  at 1 pm,  June 21, 2017.
