Reta Anne Hughes, 80, of Dewey, died Friday, June 26th in Bartlesville.
With profound sadness and a deep sense of love, we announce the passing of Reta Robinson Hughes, who left this world on June 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Reta was born on January 14, 1946, in the quaint town of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to her loving parents, Anna and Leon Robinson. She was 80 years old at the time of her passing, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and unfaltering faith.
Reta’s journey through life was marked by her incredible generosity and unpredictable sense of humor that brought joy to many.
She graduated from Copan High School and went on to earn a degree in Education, specializing in Home Economics. Her professional life was as colorful as her personal one, with roles ranging from switchboard operator at Phillips Petroleum and Oklahoma State University, to painting buffalo fences. She also worked as a beloved Home Economics teacher at Ketchum Schools. Reta finished her career as a teller for Truity Credit Union.
In 1970, Reta married the love of her life, Jackie Don Hughes, on August 22. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and good-natured bickering—a testament to their deep, enduring bond. They were blessed with 36 years of marriage, during which they raised two wonderful children, Jacob Hughes and Jennifer Hughes, who carry forward the values and love instilled in them by their parents.
Reta was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Jackie Don Hughes, and her devoted parents, Anna and Leon Robinson. Her spirit lives on through her children, Jacob and his spouse, Violet, and Jennifer, as well as her adored grandson, Jack. Her sister, Molly Wilcox, passed not long after Reta’s death.
She is also survived by her brother, Harold Gunn, and her brother-in-law (Molly’s husband), Joe Wilcox. She is also survived by numerous other children she considered family, reflecting her nurturing heart. Her circle of close friends, who were like family, will forever cherish her memory.
Among Reta’s passions was the joy she found in cooking for her family and friends, sharing love through every meal she prepared. Her Kindle was never far from reach, as she loved to immerse herself in the worlds found in books. Above all, Reta’s enduring faith in Jesus Christ was her guiding light, and she fervently wished for all of her loved ones to stroll over Heaven with her someday.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Dewey Christian Church on August 7, 2026, at 12:00 noon, honoring Reta’s wishes for an intimate, casual, non-traditional gathering.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, Ascension St. John’s Hospital (Tulsa), Ascension Jane Phillips Medical Center (Bartlesville), Heritage Villa (Bartlesville), and Hospitality House of Tulsa for their unwavering support and the exceptional care provided during Reta’s illness.
Reta’s legacy of kindness, faith, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. May she rest in peace, embraced by the eternal love she shared so freely in this world.
