Lorna McLeod Hughes passed away October 23, 2018 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Lorna was born September 17, 1934 to Lorne M. McLeod and Mary Blair McLeod in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School and Oklahoma A&M (OSU) in Stillwater, Oklahoma where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. While attending OSU, she met and married the love of her life, John F. Hughes. They were married June 23, 1956 in Tulsa. They made their home on the Hughes Ranch southwest of Bartlesville.
Lorna and John enjoyed cheering on the Oklahoma State Cowboy football team with their dear college friends and family. She was an avid tennis player and golfer. Lorna was an incredible hostess and cook. She loved entertaining their many close friends and their families. She always had a project. Whether it was woodworking, refinishing furniture, making Barbie doll clothes or creating beautiful jewelry, she was always busy.
She loved her time being involved with Bartlesville Service League, Osage County Cattlewomen and the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni group. What was most important to Lorna was her home and family. Her fondest childhood memory was attending the New York City Opera with her beloved mother and grandmother.
Lorna was a devoted wife and mother and focused her attention on supporting her husband in his many endeavors and helping her children with their various activities.
She is survived by her brother, Jack McLeod, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Mary Hughes Hudson and husband, Rob, of Guthrie; her daughter, Jane Hughes Kirkpatrick of Bartlesville; her son, Robert Hughes of Bartlesville; and her daughter, Sally Hughes Trentman and husband, Kent, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Lorna had 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, John.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorna's memory may be made to the ARC Group Homes, P.O. Box 1422, Bartlesville, OK 74005.
Memorial services for Mrs. Hughes will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM, in First Baptist Church, Bartlesville. Son-in-law, Robert Hudson, will be the officiant.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
