David Wayne Hughes

David Wayne Hughes
September 6, 1943 ~ March 8, 2020

David Wayne Hughes, 76, of Durant passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Denison, TX. He was born on September 6, 1943 in Durant, OK to Albert Wayne Hughes and Ella Lou (Rigdon) Hughes.

David was a lifelong resident of Bryan County and graduated from Calera High School. David proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard 45th Division. He had many talents and was a jack of all trades. David worked for MKT Railroad, sold cars, owned his own used car lot, and was the owner of a transportation business. He was a race horse trainer, FedEx driver, and a driver for Big 5. David had many hobbies that he loved. When he was younger he loved to race dirt track cars and fish.

As David got older he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hanging out at the body shop with his childhood friends, and going to the casino. He was also a collector of knives and a member of the Elks Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Lou Hughes.

David is survived by his four sons Jon Hughes of Norman, Scott Hughes and wife Shannon of Ohio, Jason Simpson and wife Amy of Whitewright, TX, and Jeff Hughes and wife Ramona of Calera, one sister Mary Lou Dillingham and husband Gary of Durant. He is also survived by four grandchildren Cody Wayne Hughes, Laura Leigh Simpson, Audrey Ruth Hughes, and Lila Kate Hughes, and two great grandchildren Augustus Wayne Hughes and Henry David Hughes.

Memorial services will be held at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 10, 2020 with Jimmy Parrish officiating.
