Edna Pauline Hudson

Sept. 20, 1914 ~ Sept. 23, 2006

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hudson, on December 6, 1984, one brother Giles Clarence Lane, and her parents. She is survived by two sons, James Lane Hudson and wife Betsy of Henryetta and William Edward Hudson of Henryetta, and four grandchildren, James Lane Hudson II, Sydni Hudson, John Hudson and Matthew Hudson.

It was in Henryetta where she met James Hezekiah Hudson and was married on June 9, 1941.

Most of her teaching years were in the field of special education. With the help of Dr. Raymond Cox, Superintendent of Schools, they founded Henryetta's first special education program. Having been a pioneer in Special Education, Pauline published many articles and books. She also invented training scissors and special games for children with learning disabilities. Pauline applied for and was accepted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, studying "Why Children Can't Read." The following summer she attended the University of Texas where she worked in research in the area of brain damaged children.

Seeing the need to preserve the history of Henryetta, Pauline contacted the Oklahoma Historical Society, and with their help and with the assistance of many volunteers, the Henryetta Historical Society was formed. Pauline became the first president of the Society, and was the impetus behind the creation of Henryetta's nationally recognized Territorial Museum.
