Visitation for Joel Lee Hoy will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St.) on Wednesday evening, March 31, 2004, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, April 1, 2004. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Joel Lee Hoy was born September 16, 1925 in Altus, Oklahoma and he passed away on March 28, 2004 in Bakersfield, California. Joel was preceded in death by his son, Bill Muir; parents, Miles and Maude Hoy and sister, Ruby Heyl; and he is survived by his wife, Betty Hoy; daughter and son-in-law, Joelene and Jeff Flowers; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Tom Scott; 7 grandchildren, Timothy, Elizabeth, Jayden, Billy, Susan, Bryan and Randee. Joel was an activer member of various Veteran's organizations. He had his own business, Joe's Office Machines; he also worked with the Kern County Welfare Department as a social worker.
He retired from Kern County District Attorney's Office Child Support Division. His greatest joy was making court appearances to help settle his cases. His favorite pastime was shopping for bargains, to build a cabin in the mountains, and helping anybody he ran into. His best companions were his dog, Dotty and his 14 year-old cat, Scruffy.
