LeRoy Wayts Howey
February 18, 1942 ~ November 4, 2020

LeRoy Wayts Howey, 78, of Ponca City, died on November 4, 2020, at Ascension Living Via Christi Village, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

LeRoy was born on February 18, 1942, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1960. He married Lynda Johnson in December 1960, and they had two sons, Darryl and DeWayne Howey.

He owned and operated LeRoy’s Drive-In burger restaurant on North 14th and later sold the property to McDonald’s where it stands today. LeRoy worked for Conoco Inc. as an electrician, and in 1979 he established The Boat House in Ponca City and sold boats and recreational vehicles for over 35 years.

Focused on bringing family fun to the community, LeRoy, along with Bill Coleman, was instrumental in bringing back the annual Lake Ponca 4th of July Fireworks celebration. His hobbies included drag racing, OU football, motor home vacations, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia and spending time with his six grandchildren.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Lynda Howey; two sons and their wives, Darryl and Susie Howey of Fulshear, Texas, and DeWayne and Marcie Howey of Ponca City; and six grandchildren, Krysten Howey, Kara Howey, Koryn Howey, Allyson Broome and her husband Paul, Trevor Howey, and Brandon Howey. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Sally Warner, Ponca City, and Sue Cramton, Rush Springs, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Norma Lea Howey and one foster brother, Richard Massie, Everett, Washington.

Due to COVID-19, the family has decided to hold a public internment at a later date. Friends and family are welcome to leave personal memories and messages of comfort in LeRoy’s book of remembrance at Trout Funeral Home on Monday, November 9, 2020, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Marland’s Place, 1300 Summers Pl, Ponca City, OK 74604.
