William "Bill" Wayne Howerton of Ponca City, OK passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018, in Ponca City, OK at the age of 78. Born, July 6, 1940, in Roscoe, MO to Sarah Alice (Roberts) & Franklin Evanda "Vandy" Howerton. Bill graduated from Osceola High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Discharged in 1966 while stationed at Mc Connell AFB in Wichita, KS
Bill remained in the area to attend drafting school and established his early career as a draftsman. During the construction of Kaw Lake Dam, Bill had an opportunity to move to Ponca City as a draftsman on the project. Throughout his life Bill wore various hats, he installed carpet for several years locally, after which he owned and operated the Eagles Nest Bar & Grill located near Kaw Lake Dam. It was also know as Bill's Place and the Lake Road Pub & Grill. It was a widely known fact that Bill had the best burgers and brisket in the area and he maintained an atmosphere where lake goers could bring their children for a good meal. Later on when the local casinos began to expand and have card games available he went to work for Southwinds as a dealer and later transfered to First Council as a poker room supervisor.
Bill is survived by his siblings: Robert "Bob" Howerton and his wife Anna Mae; Irene Wilson; Richard Howerton and his wife, Janice; and Thomas "Tom" Howerton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by a sister, his parents and a brother.
A graveside service will be held August 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Osceola Cemetery on Hwy WW. (Missouri)
