Cynthia Jo Howard
July 18, 1950 ~ July 28, 2020

Cynthia Jo Howard-Canada passed from this life on July 28, 2020, at the age of 70 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Cindy was born on July 18, 1950, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was the daughter of Frank Richard and Mary Louise (Yates) Howard. Cindy grew up and attended school in Hutchinson graduating with the Class of 1968. Following high school Cindy furthered her education at Hutchinson Junior College. Cindy later attended Bethel College where she obtained her bachelor’s degree while residing in Newton, Kansas. Following the completion of her bachelor’s degree Cindy moved to Oklahoma. Cindy worked as a probation office for many years and was one of the first female officers in Oklahoma. She received a Hall of Fame award for OU. In 2015 she was named the Rural Social Worker of the Year of the University of Oklahoma recognizing her as "a social work professional utilizing a generalist practice model in a rural area of Oklahoma. This professional social worker is identified by the community as a resource in more than one area of expertise." She hated the publicity of it all, but as her family we are so proud to know there is a plaque on the wall in Norman celebrating her awesomeness!

In the early 1980’s, Cindy moved to Sapulpa and began working for Creek County DHS. On July 15, 1987, Cindy was united in marriage to Alfred Canada. After several years working for DHS she returned to college once again obtaining her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1997. Cindy retired in 2015, however she still loved helping other and always wanted the best of the children in the system. So, Cindy never fully retied she only slowed down.

Survivors include her husband Al Canada of the home; children Sara and Cayce Mautino, Mike and Stephanie Canada-Phillips, Shelly and Reggie Jordan, Stacy and Dan Reeder, Sister Randy Wood of Hutchinson, Kansas, grandchildren Lily Mautino, Dane Reeder, Raye Reeder, Meg Reeder-Cramer, Shimea Jordan, Emma Jordan, Avery Jordan and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing.

Cindy was preceded in death by her father Frank Howard and mother Mary Howard.

Being outdoors working in her flower garden was her passion. Yearly road trips during spring break was also something that was very special to Cindy. Visiting with her family and traveling to warm climates were some of her favorite things to do.

Services will be private with Chapman-Black Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Cindy at www.chapman-black.com.
