Doyle Wayne Houston went home to his heavenly father in the early morning hours of September 28, 2022. He was 87 years old.
Doyle, the youngest of seven children, was born at his family home near Vian, Ok on September 8, 1935 to Ben and Kate Warneke Houston. He grew up in Vian attending Box Country School and after an honorary discharge from the U.S. Army on June 23, 1955 he attended Barber College in Tulsa, OK and spent his entire career barbering in Shidler, Fairfax, Alva and for forty-five years in Newkirk, Ok where he was forced to retire due to his health.
Doyle met and married the love of his life, Bonnie Bonner, in Fairfax, Ok on May 28, 1964. They have two children; Clay Houston of Wichita, Ks and Shelly Emmel of Ponca City, Ok.
He was grounded in his faith and was a founding member of Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church of God in Newkirk where he served in many capacities for the Lord.
Doyle loved to play golf and was a member of the Newkirk Golf Association for many years, playing as often as possible for as long as he could. He was very proud to say he won the NGA tournament senior division for four consecutive years. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and cherished spending time with them. He will be missed every day but the family is so thankful to have had him as a mentor and an awesome advocate for Jesus Christ. Great comfort is taken knowing he is home in heaven.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Ben and Kate, and five sisters; Cherokee Buttery, Tressie Bryan, Alene Rohrbach, Parilee (Ditt) Harris and Bobbie Fink. Also proceeding him is his only brother Lovely O. (Buster) Houston. Doyle is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home, and his children; Clay and companion Jeff Petty, Shelly and husband Jamie Emmel. His grandchildren; Chase Johnston and wife Cindy, Chelsea Chapman and husband Ryan, Shea Johnston and wife Haley, Michael Moffatt and wife Sarah, Ryan Emmel and Austin Emmel. Also by his nine great-grandchildren.
Doyle will be honored with a remembrance ceremony on Friday, October 7, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel, 2016 N. 14th St., Ponca City, Ok. The family invites everyone who knew Doyle to attend and celebrate with them a “Life Well Lived”
Honorary casket bearers are Teck Bryan, Chase Johnston, Shea Johnston, Michael Moffatt, Ryan Emmel and Austin Emmel.
